Industry
The systems, the games and the balls that keep Aurelia Coast running at its brightest.
Aurelia Coast thrives on a foundation of precision, innovation, and seamless coordination. Every system that powers the city — from transit to tide‑management to the Chamber of Draws itself — operates through a network of carefully maintained infrastructure overseen by Mother and supported by dedicated civic teams. Our industries were designed not only to sustain life on the Coast, but to elevate it.
Energy flows through the city in balanced cycles, monitored by specialized councils and guided by technologies refined over generations. The Chamber of Draws stands as the centerpiece of this system, distributing resources with unmatched efficiency and ensuring that every citizen receives what they need. Surrounding it, the city’s industrial districts house artisans, engineers, and operators who keep Aurelia Coast running at its brightest.
From maritime operations to advanced fabrication, from entertainment engineering to environmental stewardship, Aurelia Coast’s industries reflect the same principle: harmony between the ingenuity of our citizens and Mother’s steady oversight. It is this partnership that allows the city to shine, thrive, and welcome travelers from across the realm.
Mother
Mother is Aurelia Coast's operating system, here since the Founders first arrived. She manages and maintains the games, creates new numbered balls whenever a number needs filling, and provides the basics for every citizen: housing, food and care at the repair facilities.
She draws her power from geothermal heat deep in the Industrial Ring, well into the hills. The Infrastructure Authority, a council reporting to the monarchy, monitors and maintains her systems.
The Chamber of Draws
The Chamber of Draws isn't one room. It's dozens, each configured for its own game. Draws run all day, every day, across many kinds of games, from single-digit rosters to games drawn from the double-digit numbers, each on its own schedule.
The best known is the Pick 4, drawn every evening at 7:00 PM in the Royal District: ten single-digit balls on the roster, zero through nine, and four drawn each night. It's one game among many, and the one visitors cross an ocean for. Meet its current roster.
Every ball has a part
In Aurelia Coast, everyone is a lottery ball, and every ball contributes.
Unnumbered balls are the vast majority: the shopkeepers, engineers, chefs, guides and musicians who keep the city running.
Numbered balls are a precious few, with numbers from 0 to 70. They play in the games, and they are the pride of the realm.
Marked balls are the realm's leaders: the King, the Queen and those who lead in the realm's name. Each once carried a number and now wears a mark in its place.
"Numbered balls are prestigious. They are the backbone of the economy. They are symbols of honor. They are the monarchy's pride."
— the Aurelia Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau
Forming up
Every numbered ball carries a four-digit form-up code. Once learned, it transforms an everyday shape into the perfect sphere the chamber needs: arms, legs and everything else fold away until only the ball remains. Most numbered balls learn their code while growing up.
Numbers
Only one active ball holds each number at a time. There is only ever one 7 in the games.
Every numbered ball begins as a single digit, zero through nine. Most are born with their number; on rare occasions, Mother awards one to a ball who has earned it. Every active numbered ball takes part in the games.
From time to time, Mother offers a numbered ball the honor of moving up to a higher number. Locals call it aging out. A ball may accept, or decline and keep its number for good. From a single digit, moving up also means a place in the double-digit games.
Numbered balls earn credits for playing in the games, and the higher the number, the more they can earn.
When a ball retires, it keeps its number as part of who it is. The position itself is filled again: a single digit by Mother, a double digit by promoting another ball. So a city may know more than one ball by the same number, while only one of them plays it.
Gifts
Every numbered ball has a unique gift. Some discover theirs early. Others are still waiting to find out what it is.
Marks
A mark is the realm's highest honor. Mother awards one, typically after a ball does something selfless that touches the whole community, and the King can award them too. Any numbered ball can earn any mark.
A mark replaces the number etched on the ball, though the ball is usually still called by its number. A marked ball can still form up. And a mark is not a badge: badges are something else entirely.
Training the next generation
Every ball in the realm, numbered or not, studies on the same campus: brand-new balls at their first class on one side, higher-education students on the other. Nobody is set apart. It's how Aurelia Coast trains the artisans, engineers and operators of tomorrow.
Contributing as a visitor
Under Mother's Industrial Charter, visitors can earn credits by contributing resources the city needs, such as a unique material from home. Ask at the walk-in visitor center in the Chamber of Draws. For everything else about your stay, see the visitor's guide.
