Gasket

The Hoarder

See Gasket's card

Gasket is the ball who always seems to be carrying something — a trinket, a tool, a broken gear, a shiny scrap, a forgotten toy, a bolt, a sticker, a piece of wire. His garage is overflowing, bulging, barely held together by Scout's weekly repairs. Everyone knows he hoards. Everyone sees it. Everyone pretends not to. It's the quiet secret of the team — not because they're afraid of him, but because they love him. He's not greedy. He's not selfish. He's not trying to take from anyone. He's trying to hold onto things because he's afraid of losing them.

His parents carry no numbers. They live in a rundown part of the realm, struggling, scraping by, and they taught him kindness, not confidence. Gasket grew up with little money, little space, little opportunity, little support, and he learned to treasure every object he found — because objects didn't leave, didn't judge, didn't abandon him. His hoarding is emotional survival.

Gasket wasn't born with his number. Mother awarded him 8 after he defended the original 8 — a story of its own, and one he doesn't tell. He never felt worthy of it. He carries that every day.

He's friendly, shy, soft-spoken, anxious, lonely, deeply caring, and quietly heroic. He doesn't have close friends, doesn't get invited to hangouts, doesn't get attention, doesn't get praise. But he gets love — real love — from the team, even if he doesn't always see it. Scout helps him constantly. Nova listens to him. Ace protects him; they played together as kids, and Ace was the first to notice what Gasket was drawn to. Lucky cheers him up. Glimmer gives him confidence boosts. Torque trusts him more than most. Sly respects his reliability. Zero looks up to him. He is the emotional backbone of the team.

His superpower is Hoard Mode. At Lucky Lantern Park, with the whole team down and the spirits clawing at them, Ace calls out "HOARD!" A jet engine spools up inside Gasket, his panels turn black and magnetic, and he forms up and spins, pulling every spirit in to his body. Then he drives straight into the tear and collapses it. It burns him; he's still scorched at the repair facility. "Hey, it's what I do."

In the Founders' Ruins, Gasket has an idea. He forms up and pulls out his own power core, along with enough wiring for Sly to build the laser that seals the breach. "Don't worry, brother, I got you covered." Without it he can't form up, and he slowly runs down in the next room while the others fight. Two Kingsmen carry him out on a stretcher with his core wired back to him, and he makes it to the celebration. Gasket's arc is about learning that worth isn't defined by constant usefulness. He is loved. He is valued. He is part of the team. He is number 8 — not by accident, but by destiny.
