Nova is the ball who always has her eyes on the sky. She's cosmic purple, radiant, expressive, always mid-adventure — she talks fast, thinks faster, and answers questions before anyone finishes asking them. After the draw, while the others scatter, she takes the tram to the Celestial Observatory to gaze at the night sky.
Her gift is hearing — she hears what no one else can. The fear of citizens when danger approaches. The tremors of the breach before it forms. The spirits long before they appear: "They're coming." She doesn't just hear sound — she hears intent. It's not magic. It's perception beyond normal limits, a sensitivity to the fabric of their reality.
She's brilliant, imaginative, eccentric, beautiful, socially magnetic, emotionally intuitive, deeply loyal, and occasionally chaotic. She explains everything in sci-fi terms — "It's an atmospheric disturbance." "Visual reality is being distorted. Something is coming through." Her teammates don't always understand her. They trust her instincts anyway. "I heard something. Something bad." She's always right.
What Nova wants most is answers. She presses her professor about the lights reported in the sky, anomalies nobody can explain, and keeps pressing after the principal, a sturdy 60, tells her whole class it was nonsense made up by townsfolk to scare away business.
Ace relies on her more than almost anyone. When Nova asks "Did you hear that?", he listens. She's the one who finds the spirits' weakness at Lucky Lantern Park: the tear isn't stable, and they're phasing in and out of the world.
In the Founders' Ruins, Nova holds Sly's hand. Because Sly told her what she learned about thermite, the two of them are the ones at the laser in the breach room, and both know what it will do when Captain yells "NOW." Afterward, when Ace touches the wall where the breach was, she knows what he's asking before he says it: "I hear nothing."
